Summer 2024 Residential Camps

November 12th, 2023|

How does a summer volleyball camp sound where you train with other volleyball players from around the world, receive five days of top quality coaching and stay in one of England’s oldest universities.

Oh, and how about staying for a few extra days to be part of our innovative and immersive English Language programme.

Don’t for a moment think that this is a typical Summer Language School with days spent in the class room – oh no !! Students will be out and about putting their language skills into practice in a variety of locations and situations. For example if the group is heading into London to visit a museum, the tutor will expect the students to look up the opening times and plan the train and underground journey as well as navigating their way there.

On the way to and from London (just over 40 minutes on the train) the group may pick up a newspaper and with prompts from the tutors discuss one of the stories.

Over the weekend our language campers will be joined by our week long residential campers at Royal Holloway university where they will enjoy dinner getting to know each other ahead of a week of hard training. Various evening activities are organised for both groups which could include a cinema trip, an evening bowling or scrimmage matches against local clubs.

Residential options are currently available for the Emerging Elite and Elite Camps

Of course we always welcome day campers who will travel to the venue each day for training.

Courage

“The only way that we can live, is if we grow.
The only way that we can grow is if we change.
The only way that we can change is if we learn.
The only way we can learn is if we are exposed.
And the only way that we can become exposed is
if we throw ourselves out into the open.
Do it. Throw yourself.”

Volleyball leads the way …

They simply called it VOLLEYBALL DAY !!

On August 30, 2023, the University of Nebraska women’s volleyball team set a new world record for attendance at a women’s sporting event at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska with a crowd of 92,003.  The previous record was set in April 2022, when 91,648 fans in Barcelona, Spain, gathered to witness a UEFA Champions League semi-final between Barcelona and Wolfsburg at Camp Nou.

There have been some spectacular staging for volleyball matches. Horse Guards Parade in London for the Beach Volleyball at the 2012 Olympics, Italy opening this years Women’s Euro Volley tournament in an outdoor amphitheatre in Verona but in terms of scale this tops the lot. The news coverage around the world has certainly grabbed attention for women’s sport in general and volleyball in particular.

Northern Lights 2023

March 1st, 2023|

Introducing the Northern Lights camps …

VbDC is hosting at a “Northern Lights Camp at Sport Central in Newcastleupon Tyne over the weekend of 12th & 13th August.

VbDC is committed to the long-term development of local and regional volleyball, and as a result, aims to facilitate growth of the performance and participation aspects of the sport by bringing local players and coaches into contact with other coaches from across the UK.

There are discount packages to allow parents to affordably send multiple athletes, and the Northern Lights programme will prioritise those who live and play in the North-East. Parents are welcome to observe sessions from the seating above the courts, and VbDC representatives will be in attendance to answer any questions that may arise.

We understand that age and gender in volleyball comes with varying challenges such as different net heights and changing priorities in skills. Because of this, two courts have been booked for the Emerging Elite camp to allow for children to be grouped in a way that provides them the most benefit for their level of skill.  Volleyball Development Camps always aims to provide a coach-to-player ratio of approximately 1:6, particularly in camps that focus on the more complex aspects of the sport.

LOCATION

Sport Central, Northumberland Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 8ST

Sport Central is only a 20 minute walk away from Newcastle Central Station and there are multiple car parks on or near the sitesite
