The Autumn Skillz and GCSE Camp is a highly structured multi-level training programme where younger athletes combine individual ball-handling skill work with basic team scrimmaging.
Running simultaneously is the GCSE Practical Exam option. This course gives GCSE Sports Studies students 15 hours of tuition in the criteria required by all the examining boards. Some of the country’s leading volleyball coaches lead the course, and a video recording of the sessions is provided for use in a remote assessment for the athlete’s PE instructor. This can be worth 10 percent of the GCSE grade.
Who it’s for: Athletes who have started playing organised volleyball and want to progress to a more competitive level, and GCSE Sports Studies students. It is also of benefit to those studying for an NCFE Certificate in Sports and Physical Activity or A Level Sport and Fitness.
VbDC’s message to the athlete: You are looking to perfect your technical form for consistent serving and successfully receiving serves, effectively defending with blocks and passes, and attacking with accurate sets and spikes. If you need to improve these skills your training will follow the basic Skillz curriculum to refine your technique. If your ball-control skills are more advanced, you will train mainly in the team-based portion of the curriculum which will introduce you to the tactical aspects of the game and prepare you for the demands of sustained advanced training. You should be aware that some athletes will require training at more than one Skillz curriculum event to achieve the necessary level of ball control for progression to performance training.
Average age: 13-16
Athlete information: Registration for this camp requires you to provide information about your playing history and competitive experience.
