The Rising Elite Camp is a five- or 10-day intensive training experience based on a performance curriculum of mainly team-based drills and ball-control remediation, for athletes who have been competing at intermediate level on a school or club team.
Who it’s for: Athletes with minimum three years of training and competition on school JV or varsity teams, or club county and provincial teams. Ideally at least one of those years will include year- round participation in volleyball training and competition. It can be of particular value to athletes who want to improve their prospects for selection to a place on a starting line-up, promotion to a team in a higher level of competition, or who want to improve their skillset for a specific position.
The VbDC Virtual Assistant Coach programme is offered only at the Rising Elite Camp. Details can be found in the Other Services pages of this website.
VbDC’s message to the athlete: You have chosen volleyball as your main sport and will have recently started, or will be starting, year round training and competition. You possess sufficient ball control and consistency to not cause team-based drills to break down. You will be prepared for a curriculum that takes you out of your comfort zone, challenges your technical skills, demands physical fitness, and requires a basic tactical knowledge of the game. You know how to play in both 4-2 and 5-1 formations You take an active role in the athlete-coach relationship. On the court you display a mindset for success rather than a fear of failure. In training you can perform an overhead serve in court eight out of 10 times. You have accepted that errors are some of the stepping stones to progress and you learn from your mistakes.
Average age: 14-17
Athlete information required: Registration for this camp requires you to provide information about your playing history and competitive experience, your physical attributes (eg. height, dominant hand, etc), your playing position and other relevant details to help coaches prepare the course. In most cases, a recommendation from a qualified or licensed volleyball coach is required.
