The New Kids on the Court and First Stepz camps follow the same beginner’s curriculum, but are offered in different formats, the first in consecutive weekends and the latter over a two-day period. Young athletes are introduced to the sport’s basic skills in energetic and fun activities.
Who it’s for: Beginners who want to try an alternative to the sports that draw large numbers of athletes to training sessions, youngsters who enjoy team sports, and athletes who prefer non-contact sport. Many athletes may have never touched a volleyball. The youngest athletes will probably need to attend more than one camp with this curriculum before progressing to the next curriculum.
VbDC’s message to the athlete: You have seen volleyball on television or in person, and may even have had a go at it. You found it challenging, but lots of fun. You like playing team sports .You can move quickly around a court, showing coordination and balance. You can jump and catch a ball while you are in the air.
Average age: 8-14
